About the artist

Agnieszka Wencka (b. 1978) The artist describes her painting as an attempt to combine reality and unrealistic forms, to juxtapose delicate, precise elements with dynamic areas. She often presents a combination of these unreal elements, sometimes covering or forming a figure, thereby achieving a surreal character. In her works she tries to include some asymmetry, imbalance, strength, emotion, the contrast of uniform surfaces and a multitude of unreal elements, understatement, haziness, a slight sweep combined with subtle precision. She does not try to name literally what the paintings depict, all the more so as everyone sees something different in them – some see, for example, a tangled inner life, others emotions. According to the artist, the elements forming the figure are most often an expression of the experiences we gather throughout life, both good and bad, which shape us, are at once our strength and our weakness, and build our individuality. • 2016 – solo exhibition at Galeria Maya in Toruń • 2017 – group exhibition “World Wide Art Show New York 2017”, organised by Flyer Art Gallery, at Caelum Gallery in New York, USA • 2018 – group exhibition at IROK Galerie Horst in the Netherlands • 2018 – group exhibition at Galleri Rødhusgaarden in Denmark • 2019 – publication of an article in ImagineFX Magazine, an art magazine • 2021 – publication in Beautiful Bizarre Magazine, an international magazine of contemporary art • 2021 – group exhibition “Woman” at Vinci Art Gallery in Poznań
