Grzegorz Radziewicz

Grzegorz Radziewicz was born in 1976 in Białystok. He is a graduate of the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. He works in easel painting, large-format painting (including murals), artistic printmaking and performance. He has presented his paintings and prints at 30 solo exhibitions and more than 80 group exhibitions, and has shown his works in Poland, the USA, England, Portugal and Japan. Besides painting and printmaking in the broad sense, he often works at the boundary between the visual arts and poetry, music and theatre. "Thought freed from matter, or the heavy machine of reality? What is truly important when we can soar above the world, and our mind glides above time and space? I am now, and at the same time once. The past and the present give me an idea of what may come. Will the future be the resultant of events, or will it surprise us?" All of Grzegorz Radziewicz's paintings form a kind of Chronicle telling the story of a mysterious Constructor and his inventions. It is a story of pursuing a dream against all odds. In his world, nothing, not even the laws of physics as we know them, can stand in the way of the Constructor created by the artist. In his work he addresses the themes of time and transience. His paintings, kept in a faded palette, may recall an old, worn photograph. They transport the viewer into a non-existent, phantasmagorical space full of flying machines, impossible structures, melancholy women and anonymous, symbolic male figures. The meticulously painted flying ships seem to stand still and to repeat after the artist his questions about passing time. From a technical point of view, the structure of the painting is enriched by a rich texture and a refined, often monochromatic palette. He currently works at the Faculty of Architecture of Białystok University of Technology, in the Institute of Art, Department of Graphics.
