About the artist

(b. 1967) – painter, sculptor. He studied at the Władysław Strzemiński State Higher School of Fine Arts in Łódź (now the Academy of Fine Arts). He practises painting and sculpture. In the 1990s, alongside easel painting, he worked in interior decoration and illusionistic wall painting. This activity had an enormous influence on his current work. The use of decorative, ornamental elements continues to this day to play a part in creating structures on the planes that build the composition of his paintings. These strongly constructed compositions, using a narrow, contrasting range of colours, give the paintings a somewhat abstract dimension. At first glance, however, it is evident that their main feature is a story. The artist paints pictures depicting human relationships, relationships between women and men, and humorous situations from life, usually suspended in a metaphorical world, which brings his work closer to Magical Realism. He creates his painted stories through symbols, strongly connected with the titles of the paintings. He does not want to be a precursor or an innovator, or to cross boundaries. He is an observer who focuses his attention on gestures and glances, from which he draws conclusions and builds a plot – sometimes mocking, sometimes nostalgic, sometimes interpreting sayings or proverbs. It always revolves around relationships between people.
