About the artist

Born in 1984, he is a graduate of the Painting Department of the Institute of Fine Arts at the University of Zielona Góra. He received his master's degree in 2010. The subject of his paintings is the human being, usually depicted nude, sometimes partly covered with draped fabric. The figures are anonymous; they turn their faces away and appear to the viewer from behind or in part. In his works the artist restricts the range of colours. The subdued, dark palette contrasts with the tone of the human body, rendered with almost anatomical precision, without idealisation, in the tradition of the classically understood nude. The works of Łukasz Towpik are clearly inspired by Old Master art, supplemented by an unreal or indeterminate space. These are paintings in which eroticism is combined with mysticism and spirituality, and the artist strives to reveal deeper symbolism.
