About the artist

Marija Jevtić Dajić was born in 1990 in western Serbia, on the banks of the Drina. The town is widely known as the meeting place of two empires, Byzantium and Rome, whose artistic legacy aroused her interest in painting from an early age. At the secondary school of art she revealed her great talent for painting and a deep understanding of the principles of Byzantine art. Her interweaving of Byzantine and modern art in her works earned her the award for the best student of her generation, and her teachers strongly advised her to continue studying painting. She continued her education at the Academy of Fine Arts, studying painting in Novi Sad in northern Serbia, once the capital of the Habsburgs' southern province and now the European Capital of Culture 2022. She developed her work under the influence of professors who loved Austro-Hungarian and modern art, and she graduated as the best student of her generation. In 2013 she began her master's studies, and in 2015 she received her master's degree in painting, once again as the best student of her generation. Following her artistic quest and desire for greater knowledge, in 2016 she began studies at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering in Ljubljana, in the graphic design department, where she defended her doctorate. Thanks to her outstanding GPA, dedication and artistic achievements, she received a scholarship from the Republic of Slovenia. She defended her doctoral thesis drawing on knowledge of both graphic design and painting, thereby creating images for the blind. Since then she has been creating these works, combining digital and manual work. In 2019 she began a second doctorate at the Faculty of Architecture in Novi Sad, in the scenography department. Her interests broadened to include the social dimension of art, stage contemplations, and the experience and interpretation of events in another sphere of art, namely the performing arts. Since 2013 she has exhibited her works in 35 solo exhibitions and more than 300 group exhibitions, and she has received 10 awards. In 2020 Art Lambda was established, and in 2021 she founded an atelier in Vallauris in the south of France.
