Bogdan Pilatowicz was born in Warsaw in 1957. In August 1981 he left for Paris, and then in December 1981 he emigrated to Austria. From 1986 he practised painting as a self-taught artist. On 12 July 1996, a commission of artists at the Ministry of Science, Culture and Art in Vienna, on the basis of the works submitted, granted him the status of professional visual artist. In 1997 he continued his education at seminars and consultations in Udine (Italy) and Munich. He specialised in mural painting and its contemporary possibilities. Between 1989 and 2015 he was the author of many projects, including for Raiffeisen Bank, Sparkasse Bank, Bank Austria, Hypo Bank and CARITAS. He worked in Austria, Germany and Italy. Since 2009 he has exhibited his paintings in Austria. In 2015 he collaborated with the German surrealist group of artists "Fantastisch". From 2016 he added Digital Art (Cinema4D) to his practice. Between 2015 and 2021 his paintings could be found in galleries, on online art portals and in European auction houses. Bogdan Pilatowicz is a painter who, in a long, consistent creative process, has created his own visual language. This language has its source in the current of Surrealism, but not only there. In seeking the optimal form for conveying his reflections on the world, he adds abstract elements to Surrealism and often remains in abstraction, while retaining his own style. This freedom in painting is very important to him. It is part of his personality, gives him more possibilities of expression, and protects him against routine or copying himself. His particular way of working explains this need for free choice of the form in which to visualise his own thoughts. Each of his paintings has a title! Pilatowicz has his own library of titles, which is constantly growing. His interest in the world, and in European culture in particular, confronts him practically every day with small and great themes that move him and that he wants to discuss through his painting. His creative process is very analytical. He chooses a title from his library and "carries" it with him for some time, considering the possibilities of pictorial expression. The next phase is sketches or drawings. After choosing the appropriate variant of the idea for the painting, he begins to paint. Of course, in the course of painting he adds or removes certain elements in order to achieve the optimal expression of his work. Aesthetics in art is important to him. Neither vulgarity nor sensationalism will be found in his works. He is absolutely convinced that the important themes of humanity can be presented more deeply in a subtle manner.
