Description
Against the deep black of the background emerges a male profile in dark glasses, releasing a cloud of smoke from his mouth. The figure and the smoke are built from hundreds of cut-out labels resembling cigar bands, full of coats of arms, inscriptions and gilding. The face is formed of warm browns, reds and creamy beiges. The arm gleams with gold on a black ornament, and the cloud brightens with white, silver, blue and violet. The whole is outlined by a silvery grey contour. The portrait, titled "Nico", combines an expressive, poster-like silhouette with a meticulous texture that is best viewed up close. The glossy fragments catch the light, and the scene gives the impression of a moment of quiet pleasure caught mid-exhalation. The large format and the golden palette on black suit a spacious living room or study furnished with wood and leather.
