About the artist
Wiesław Kwak (born 1963 in Sucha Beskidzka). Graduate of the A. Kenar State Secondary School of Fine Arts in Zakopane (1978–1983). From 1983 to 1988 he studied at the Faculty of Sculpture at the State Higher School of Fine Arts (Academy of Fine Arts) in Gdańsk. He received his diploma with distinction in the studio of Prof. Franciszek Duszeńko in 1988. From 1989 to 1990 he completed an internship in the sculpture studio of Prof. Jean Cardot at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Three-time recipient of a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. He creates works in painting, sculpture, drawing and printmaking. He has presented his works at numerous solo and group exhibitions in Poland and abroad. His work is based on the study of form combined with line, "pictura linearis". The subject of his works is the human being and human emotions. He often creates series of sculptures, such as "Metamorphoses", "Balance" and "The Conjuror". Exhibition curator and participant in plein-air workshops, he has completed numerous sculptural projects in urban spaces, and his works are held in many private collections in Poland and abroad.
